Lately, you may have found yourself doing a little, What if?” and wondering, “What if I took an aesthetics training course? What if I expanded my scope of practice with aesthetic medicine? What if I shifted medical specialties and moved into aesthetic medicine altogether?”

Maybe you’ve even been doing some Googling on the subject, trying to determine precisely what training courses you need to become an aesthetic nurse. And if so, you’re in luck because we’re here to break it down for you!

And at this point, if you’re finding yourself thinking, “Okay, that sounds great, but who, exactly, is we?” allow us to introduce ourselves!

About AAAMS

We are AAAMS—The American Association of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery—the industry-leading platform for fully-accredited, top-tier aesthetics training and certification. We’ve been training RNs, NPs, PAs, physicians, and even dentists for rewarding careers in aesthetic medicine since 2006 and have more than 5,000 successful graduates worldwide to show for it.

At AAAMS, we’re known for providing a comprehensive, rigorous curriculum while infusing fun into our courses. (After all, we believe people learn better when the process is enjoyable.) But the thing we’re proudest of is the way we set our students up for success from the get-go. How? With the AAAMS Aesthetics Network. It’s a professional social and networking platform that’s a lot like LinkedIn, but exclusively for aesthetics practitioners.

The great thing about the Aesthetics Network is it instantly plugs you into peer support, mentorship opportunities, learning resources, and everything you need to feel supported on your aesthetics journey. It’s a way to connect and collaborate with other healthcare professionals excited about aesthetic medicine, learn from those with more experience, access job referrals and job listings, take advantage of special industry events, and much more!

What You Need to Get Started on Your Aesthetics Journey

The very first thing it’s essential to understand is that to be eligible for our aesthetics training courses, you need to be a currently licensed RN, NP, PA, physician, or dentist. The skills we’ll teach you in our world-class courses build upon your existing medical knowledge and training. This is why you can become an aesthetics nurse in such a relatively short time—you already possess many of the foundational skills for performing minimally-invasive aesthetics procedures.

The Three Areas In Which You’ll Need Training

To become an aesthetics nurse, you’ll need to take courses that offer training and certification in three main areas: Botox injections, dermal filler injections, and chemical peels. (Certification is what indicates to potential employers and patients that you’ve been properly trained to perform non-invasive aesthetics procedures safely, effectively, and artfully.)

Prerequisite Courses and Certification Courses

If you’re entirely new to aesthetic medicine (don’t have prior experience performing Botox or dermal filler injections), you’ll need to start with our introductory and beginner courses. These are prerequisites for the intermediate courses in which you become certified (at which time you’re eligible to take our advanced courses).

To make things even more straightforward, you need to take two levels of courses to become certified in Botox injections, dermal filler injections, and chemical peels. Let’s take a quick look at how it works.

Level 1, Prerequisite Course — Facial Aesthetics 101

This course combines three prerequisite courses (Introduction to Aesthetics, Botulinum Toxins 101, Dermal Fillers 101) into a single bundle. (If you prefer, you can take these courses as stand-alone offerings.) The content in these courses provides an overview and introduction to the art and science of facial aesthetics, neurotoxins, and dermal fillers. Topics covered include facial anatomy, the aging process, facial beautification as conceived through the golden ratio, clinical assessment, proper injection technique, and more.

Level 2, Certification Course, Option 1 — CE Accredited Aesthetics 101 Hybrid

The CE Accredited Aesthetic 101 Hybrid is a two-day training program taught by experienced physicians that integrates virtual interactive didactic sessions with live hands-on botox training. You’ll participate in virtual, live classroom lectures, case presentations, discussions, and demonstrations on mannequins and real people. Once you complete the course, you’ll receive certification in Botox, dermal fillers, and chemical peels.

Level 2, Certification Course, Option 2 — CE Accredited Aesthetics 101 Virtual

This course is almost exactly like the hybrid course we covered above, except you can take it from the comfort of your own home! That’s right; you get all the same content as in the hybrid course without traveling to Beverly Hills to attend the training in person. (If you’re a homebody, dislike travel, or prefer virtual learning, this is the option for you!)

And there you have it—the courses you need to become an aesthetic nurse! We hope you have found this article helpful.
