5 Aesthetic Treatments for Men

While women comprise the lion’s share of the aesthetic medical industry’s clientele, men are beginning to represent an increasingly large segment of that population as well.

It’s true that only 9.5% of the aesthetic medical procedures performed in the U.S. last year were on male patients, but that number represents a growth of 325% in males seeking out aesthetic medical treatments since 1997.

Obviously, men are spending more cash and effort on maintaining their physical appearance now than ever before, and that trend seems poised to continue upwards for the foreseeable future. Here, then, are five of the most popular aesthetic treatments being sought by men.

Botox®

Among the many types of aesthetic procedures available to those seeking to soften or eliminate those pesky smile lines or forehead creases, one of the enduring favorites continues to be Botox®.

Botulinum toxin, more commonly known as Botox®, is a toxin from a bacteria that has been sterilized. When injected into the skin, it inhibits the movement of muscles to diminish or eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. While women have been taking advantage of Botox® for years, more and more men are now seeking out the enduringly youthful appearance that Botox® injections can offer.

But reducing lines and arresting the physical aging process are not the only advantages that this treatment can offer. In addition to the more standard reasons for seeking Botox®, men suffering from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) can also achieve up to 8 months of relief as a result of these injections. Botox® has also been known to help men who suffer from enlarged prostates as well as effectively controlling pain associated with fibromyalgia, cerebral palsy, migraines, multiple sclerosis, and strokes.

Kybella

A major complaint of both men and women as they get older is the development of that dreaded double chin.

Kybella is a fully FDA-approved injectable treatment that helps restore the definition to the upper neck by actually melting the fat deposits that contribute to those double chins. It’s made from an agent called deoxycholic acid that the human body produces naturally in order to metabolize fat. It’s known in some circles as the double-chin destroyer, and it doesn’t just remove the fat. It also retracts the skin so that you’re not left with an unsightly “turkey neck.”

Waxing/laser hair reduction

Excess hair growth on a variety of locations on the body can be not just unsightly, but also uncomfortable. Laser hair reduction can be highly effective in the removal of unwanted body hair in areas like the upper lip, sideburns, chin, ears, chest, back, armpits, legs, fingers, feet, or toes.

Laser hair reduction does require multiple treatments, and it will require maintenance. The laser works best on hairs that are in an early growth stage, and not all the hairs will be in this growth phase at the same time. Hair in the treated area may take up to 2 weeks to fall out.

If lasers aren’t your thing, another treatment that’s becoming increasingly popular for male hair removal is waxing. Waxing is the process of removing hair from the root using a sticky wax substance to pull out the hair from the follicle.

Removing hair via waxing is a semi-permanent hair removal solution that removes the hair from the root. Patients can expect hair in the waxed area to not regrow for two to eight weeks, although some people will start to see regrowth in only a week. Continued waxing, however, will cause hair growth to diminish over time due to repeated weakening of the hair follicle as treatments continue.

Body Sculpting

No matter how much dieting and exercise we engage in, there are always some small areas of the body in which the fat stubbornly refuses to go away. Whether it be the chest, belly, or love handles, these isolated pockets of fat can make all of your patients’ hard work and healthy lifestyle choices seem in vain.

Luckily, there are a number of body-sculpting techniques, including liposuction, CoolSculpting, Vanquish, and Emsculpt to reduce those stubborn fat pockets and give patients the lean, contoured body they’ve been looking for.

Tattoo removal

While tattoos have lost much of the stigma that once accompanied them in the world of business, there are still those select body art choices that seemed like a good idea at the time, but… yeah…

Fortunately, most aesthetic medical providers offer some form of laser tattoo removal to erase those questionable impulse tats, whatever your reason for not wanting them around anymore.

Becoming an aesthetic practitioner today means you won’t just be treating women. It’s important to know what procedures are working for men, too, so you can offer all your patients the best possible experience. Ready to get started? Learn about our virtual course offerings today!
